SILVERTONE/KAY MODEL: 1425
circa 1959

Silvertone Kay 1425 2pu electric guitar This is a sweet Silvertone, red sunburst, hollow body, model 1425, electric guitar made for Sears by Kay of Chicago. It has two supreme sounding pickups that range from twangy to smooth. It also features a hardwood top with maple back and sides. This guitar can be played acoustically or electrically and sounds fantastic both ways. It's a nice light guitar that really puts out. The neck is straight and all the electronics work properly. The action is set fast and it plays really well. This Silvertone feels really good in your hands and sounds amazing. This is definitely a collector's and/or player's guitar.Description from VintageSilvertones.com

The guitar is completely original, although there is a metal strap pin at the heel which we believe may have been added. The original wooden strap pin at the bottom of the guitar is in great condition. One interesting thing to note is that the 1959 Sears catalog has this same guitar but the pickup control is a slider versus the toggle on this model. This guitar is virtually identical to the Kay Pacer model K6550 except the binding/trim in this model is one solid color versus the Pacer's black and white striped trim. It appears that Kay sold these guitars from the mid-late 1950s through the mid-1960s. The pick-ups are indicative of that time period.
