UNIVOX: LIMITED EDITION-(TV1)
circa 1970

Univox Limited Edition-TV1 - Les Paul Jr. or Melody Maker style electric guitar This is an early 1970's (or late 1960's), Univox Limited Edition (TV-1) electric guitar. It includes the original case but it's a bit worn. This guitar was made in the infamous Matsumoko guitar factory in Japan. It's the same factory that produced the Aria and Ibanez guitars. It was also the factory/company that was involved in the copyright lawsuit of the 1970's. The guitar is "wine red"; which is a translucent red. I believe the body is Mahogany wood. It's a Japanese made knock-off of the Gibson Melody Maker or Les Paul Jr. It has a rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, double cutaway, Gibson-lawsuit era headstock, and 1 P90 pickup. From what I can tell it appears to have a glued-on neck. This guitar is serial number 001035 which is stamped on the back of the headstock so it's an early model. It also appears to have had a sticker on the headstock, presumably it said "Made In Japan." It is completely original. This guitar was definitely meant for rock. It's got a heavy sound like you'd find on it's inspiration.

Univox guitars were made from the early 1960's through 1978. The guitars were made in Japan at the Matsumoko factory which burned down in 1985. Unicord also manufactured amplifiers in Westbury New York but eventually moved the production to Japan. After 1978 the name changed to Westbury and then Stage guitars. The company changed hands or merged several times over it's history but the main company was called Unicord. They stopped producing guitars and amps in 1985 and had the remainder of the company bought by Korg at that time.
