MICRO-FRETS: Spacetone
Circa 1968

Micro-Frets-Spacetone hollow body, 2 pickup, Martian green finish, electric guitar, Micro-NutThis is an extremely rare hollow body, symmetrical double cutaway, thin concert size, Micro-Frets Spacetone electric guitar made in Maryland. Based on the instrument's serial number, we beleive it was made somewhere between 1967 and 1968 making this one of the first models ever made. This guitar features a maple body, a Martian-green finish, white celluloid binding, a metal "M" shaped logo along the bottom, a white split-level pickguard between which the white, nylon wheel knobs that control the tone of each pickup and the overal volume are tucked, a pickup switch, two white single coil, hi-fi pickups, and a white muslin covered f-hole. This Micro-Frets guitar also has some patented features to ensure precise intonation, proper tuning and enhanced tone and sustain including a fully adjustable "Microsonic" bridge and the exclusive Micro-Nut. This spacetone also has a two position (on/off) knob on the upper bass bout that turns on the FM wirelss transmitter that was built into the guitar, which still works! You can play this spacetone near an FM radio and hear the guitar's sounds through any speaker connected to the radio if you turn the tuning dial to a clear local channel. You can make fine adjustments to the frequency with the screw that is located under the round metal cap cap on the back of the guitar. There is a battery compartment under the small white plastic plate on the back of the guitar. This guitar is in beautiful shape especially for an instrument that is approaching 50 years old. We believe that this guitar was purchased at the same time as the Micro-Frets Golden Melody, listed here, by their original owner. Conctact us if you are interested in a special deal on both Micro-Frets. The Spacetone is the second from the top of the line of Micro-Frets guitars. Both are extremely rare and early models. The green finish on this Spacetone makes it especially rare. It plays and sounds superb. Its fast action feels fantastic under your fingers. This guitar includes the original hardshell case and the key that locks it. This guitar will certainly be appreciated by both collectors and players. Do not miss your chance to get this beauty!

CONDITION:Description from VintageSilvertones.com
100% original, this guitar is in very good condition. There are thin lines of crazing along the front and back of the guitar. There is also one small spot of wear on the bottom of the bass bout. One can see additonal wear to the finish on the side of the heel where the neck joins the body. Even with these minor blemishes, this guitar looks, feels and sounds wonderful.

NECK:Description from VintageSilvertones.com
It has a straight neck, bolted on with five screws on a metal plate that features the serial number and the manufacturer's logo, a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, 22 frets and 24" scale. There is no wear to the neck or frets. The action is fast. The frets and fretboard feels fantastic under your fingers. The headstock, featuring two string trees for the highest four strings, and a silkscreened logo on a natural finish, is very clean with no wear. The neck is kept straight with an adjustable truss rod. The neck features Micro-Frets' patented Micro-Nut with individual saddles to adjust each individual string to the desired height, spacing and distance from the nut to the twelfth fret to ensure perfect intonation, particularly when used with their, also patented, Microsonic bridge. The Microsonic bridge is design to keep the guitar in tune and to enable the string to return to perfect pitch when strings are bent.

PICKUPS:Description from VintageSilvertones.com
There are two white single coil, hi-fi, pickups, specially designed for Micro-Frets, that provide a clean, crisp, clear, full tone. The bridge pickup offers an edgier, twangier tone than the neck. With the proper usage of the pickup selector switch and tone knob, the player can achieve a wide range of tones suitable for a myriad of musical styles including but not limited to jazz, soul, rock, blues, funk, country, blue grass, punk, post-punk and hardrock. This guitar has three white nylon wheel knobs tucked between the guardplates, two control the tone of each pickup and one controls the volume for both. It also has a three-way toggle to choose the neck, bridge or both pickups. There is an on/off knob on the upper treble bout that activates the system described above that allows the player to hear the guitar via an FM radio. Overall, the pickups work well and sound excellent. All electronics work properly.
