STANDEL CUSTOM 202
This is an extremely cool and very rare guitar! It's a Standel Custom 202, 2 pickup, thin-line, hollow body, electric guitar from 1967. I believe the guitar to be completely original. It has Kluson Deluxe tuners, a two-way adjustable bridge, heavy duty vibrato, adjustable truss rod, and individual pickup controls (off/on.) The body is fiberglass similar to Supro's Res-O-Glass bodies. The bridge pickup has a twangy sound that's great for country or surf sounds. The neck pickup is very full and jazzy sounding and both together have a 60's pop sound. The serial number is 2A-129; which is stamped on the base of the fretboard the same way Mosrite did. The frets are in good shape. There is a rough area on the body nearby the control knobs. Also part of the "f-hole" has torn off. The price reflects the condition.
The guitar includes a hardshell case that's worn but solid enough to protect it. The case is probably from around the same time period but I don't believe it's original to this guitar. Also included is the original advertisement shown from a 1967 magazine.
Standel was originally an amplifier company that was started in California by Bob Crooks in the late 1950's. They branched out into guitars in the early 1960s with Semie Moseley designing the first model. This model and the Custom line was design by Joe Hall who worked for Semie and later created the Hallmark guitars. This model was produced from 1967-1968. The later models were produced by Harptone in New Jersey.
