Circa 1961

Kay Galaxie, 1 Barney Kessel pu, tobaccoburst, single cutaway, Chicago 1961 This is a hollow body, arched, single cutaway, Galaxie electric guitar made by Kay of Chicago circa 1961. This guitar features a curly maple top and back; tobaccoburst finish; one single coil, Barney Kessel pickup; a white raised pickguard with the Kay "music stand" logo; an adjustable rosewood bridge; two f-holes; two clear, plastic knobs; white celluloid binding on the body and neck; one white, plastic strap pin on the bottom; nickel plated hardware; and a trapeze style tailpiece. This beauty is in fine playing or collecting condition. Grab it quick!

This Kay Galaxie is clean and in good condition. There is some light, nearly invisible crazing on the front and back. A small spot of wear to the finish can be seen between the fretboard and pickup. It has a bolt-on, bound, straight neck with triangular mother-of-pearl inlays on a Rosewood fretboard, 19 frets, and 24.25" scale. The nickel silver frets are in good condition. The headstock is clean with some minor paint wear on the edges. It has a "K" logo silkscreened on top with a "Kay" "music-stand" logo on the black plastic truss rod cover. The action is fast and the feel is fantastic.

One good quality, high output Barney Kessel, Kleenex Box-style single coil pickup that is in good working order. It has a crisp, jazzy, clean tone with a little bite, perfect for jazz, rock, garage rock, classic rock, soul, punk, funk, country or blues. There is one volume and one tone control knob made of clear plastic with a silver, metallic top. All the electronics are in proper working order.
