Circa 1964

National Varsity 66 N466- semi-hollow body electric guitar 1 pickup, made in Chicago 1964 res-o-glass This is a 1964 Varsity 66 res-o-glas, N466, guitar. Also called the Studio 66, it is a black, semi-hollow, double-cutaway, instrument with one foil-covered, single coil pickup, a white, molded pickguard, white binding, an adjustable rosewood bridge and a trapeze-style tailpiece. The guitar was made by National, a division of Valco in Chicago. The body is constructed of "res-o-glas" which the National 1961 catalog describes as "polyester resins embeded with threads of pure gleaming glass...a new climatically immune miracle material of the space age-super durable-classically beautiful-functionally perfect." This guitar is 100% original and in very good condition. There is barely a scratch on it. All the electronics work perfect, the tones are amazing and with its fast action, it feels great to play. This is a unique, beautifully designed guitar that has stayed well preserved for its 51 years of existed. It comes with a hardshell case. Don't miss the opportunity to own it in this condition.

CONDITION:
This guitar is 100% original. It is really clean and in very good condition. There are a couple of really minor, barely noticeable, scratches to the surface on the back and the foil on the pickup lifts off but otherwise this guitar looks wonderfully fresh for its age. We state all this for full disclosure but the guitar is so beautiful you'll never notice the minor wear. It is as if someone puchased is and played it a few times then stored it away. The binding is in good shape and the pickguard are also in great shape. This guitar looks really cool, plays beautifully and sounds great!

NECK:
It has a straight, bolt-on neck with circular pearl inlays on a rosewood fretboard, 20 frets, and a 24.5" scale. The paint on the back of the neck has two small scratches but is otherwise very clean. The headstock, featuring an angled metal logo, is very clean as well. The action is fast and the neck and the frets feel fastastic under your fingers. Description from VintageSilvertones.com

PICKUPS:
One single coil, foil covered pickup is very clean, strong and bright. There are two knobs, one tone and one volume. Using these will get you a variety of bright to warm tones suitable for a myriad of musical styles. All of the electronics work properly; however, the foil on the pickup lifts up occasionally and stops the strings from vibrating. The foil can be removed, held down or glued down, but to adhere to the authenticity of the instrument we chose to sell it as is.
